日立 5層で150GB、最終的には100層も可能な光ディスクを開発

日立は日立マクセルと共同で、テラバイト級の記録・再生が可能な12cm光ディスクの基本技術を開発した。これは、光ディスク記録層に電圧によって色が変化する素材を用いて、記録したい層以外を透明化することによって、100層程度の多層化を行なっても記録･再生が可能という技術だ。
また、CD/DVDとの互換性を維持することも可能。
最初は、5層150GBを実用化していくという。単純計算では100層で3TB(テラバイト)にはなると予測できる。
DVDの後の次世代光ディスクとしては、松下、ソニーなど日韓欧9社参加の Blu-ray-Disc と NEC+東芝の AOD (Advanced Optical Disc) があり、日立は前者に参加している。
